The company began operations in 1970 as Semco Systems Limited, headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario. Semco’s business was the design and installation of pneumatic conveying systems and equipment, principally for the food and mineral processing industries. Operations were focused on North America markets, with US business handled by wholly owned subsidiary Transfer Bulk Systems Corp.
The company became a public company in 2000 when parent company Semco Technologies Inc. began trading on the TSX Venture Exchange. The parent company’s name was changed to “Semcan Inc.” on February 5, 2007.
In July 2007, the company acquired the business of Stanco Projects Ltd. Founded in 1978, Stanco operated from an office in Richmond, BC, and worked on projects worldwide. Stanco’s focus was the design, engineering and integrating of high-quality chemical handling systems for a wide variety of industrial, municipal and commercial clients. These systems include bulk material handling equipment, particularly in respect of water and wastewater treatment chemicals, municipal water storage tanks, and aluminium geodesic dome structures.
In November 2009, the company acquired the assets of the ZMI Portec Division of The Conveyor Company, an Iowa corporation. This acquisition was important as it allowed the company to add the industry- standard ZMI Portec line of lime slaking equipment to its product portfolio. After the acquisition, the company improved the design and performance of the ZMI line.
After the acquisitions of Stanco and ZMI, the company integrated the operations, and the combined business continued to operate from locations in Milton, ON and Richmond, BC. On January 1, 2010, the parent company amalgamated with wholly owned subsidiaries Stanco Projects Limited and ZMI Portec Inc., and the amalgamated company continued operating as “Semcan Inc.”
The company’s name was changed from “Semcan Inc.” to “STT Enviro Corp.” on February 20, 2013.
On May 19, 2017, Carmeuse acquired STT Enviro Corp., and shortly after the company ceased to be a public company. It now operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Carmeuse.
